The CD was released in Canada today. The production is nice and full and raunchy...not too slick. Produced by Jeff Dawson, haven't heard of him, but it was mixed by Mike Fraser, who has done some pretty major albums, AC/DC, Aerosmith to name a few.
Okay this is actually really good, the last three songs I just listened to kick ass. "All the freaks", Live Fast and Teenage Parasite. 11 tracks total. The whole CD has kind of a raunchy Faster Pussycat vibe to it, but heavier. I haven't heard the Robin Black CD except for the single "All of you" so I can't compare it to that.
I give it a B+. I know a couple of the guys in the band, so I hope they can secure a US deal. They've been slugging it out in various bands around the Vancouver scene for many years and deserve a break.
You can get it through Amazon HERE
Here's a review from Chart Magazine:
CRYSTAL PISTOL S/T (Alert/Universal)
If a Motley Crue reunion and a Wednesday 13 record didn?t indicate that rock is slowly regressing into again, then Crystal Pistol?s debut effort proves it beyond a reasonable doubt. Thick production and tight delivery make this mindless, candied pop captivating despite lacking any real essence. Crystal Pistol melds slightly poppier AC/DC-esque blues-rock riffing with a screechy singer who whines about being a rock star. You can almost see him fixing his mascara between takes. Fun but somewhat shallow, this less tongue-in-cheek version of Faster Pussycat never really gets out of the gutter. Keith Carman.

The last 3 tracks were on the demos and they indeed are great... can't really compare them to Robin Black, coz its a different style of music... but I'd say Crystal Pistol are WAY better than Robin Black... will for sure pick this up.

Spun: Crystal Pistol
Self-titled

Just when you thought pop-punk and Theory of a Nickel-Creed had managed to completely pussify rock 'n' roll, along comes a band of musical pirates from Vancouver to prove you wrong. On Mar. 29, Crystal Pistol will release their self-titled debut*--an album with enough '80S hair influence to convert your grandmother to satanism.
If you're looking for ballads to listen to while relaxing in the tub, go buy an Enya record and run away screaming from this album. This is unapologetic, balls-out rock reminiscent of the days of cheap gasoline, hairspray, indoor smoking, Camaros and acid-washed jeans.
Songs like "Watch You Bleed" and "Teenage Parasite" showcase the crunching guitar riffs of lead guitarist "Pinto" and the raunchy vocals of Mik Ireland. With an album mixed by Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Aerosmith, The Cult, Guns 'n' Roses, Metallica), production values are predictably high, making for a nylon-anihilating good time.

After listening to this several times, I really like it, It really kicks ass. The vocals on the song "Shake" sounds uncannily like Tommy Floyd, In the chorus I swear to god it's him. I think "Salt of the earth" could be a hit if it got pushed.
